Just a few pictures of my family!
Name: Laura Aitken
Family: Husband- Mr. Scott, daughter- Little Miss Lily Pants
From: Johnson City, lived in Palm Beach Gardens, FL for 4 years
Birthday: Sept. 18
Favorite color: yellow and all beachy colors!
Favorite Pastimes: Singing and playing guitar with my husband across the country and Art of all kinds!
My most favorite thing to do is to teach First Grade! The theme I chose is "At the Beach", where students will go to the "beach" and help with calendar time, listen to read alouds and read independently. They will also "hit the waves" by working hard with their "swim teams", and once every 4-5 weeks, they will become their team's lifeguard: a helper that passes out/collects papers, makes sure their team is on task and collects coins for their team. I love singing silly songs that remind students of their expectations in class as well as using many different voices to gather everyone's attention!
We use the whole brain teaching technique, where students are empowered as learners by taking turns, sharing, and teaching their peers, "mirroring" the teacher in order for them to grasp the information in a fun way, and coming back to attention in a silly manner to hear important information concerning their activity or an announcement being made.
It's going to be a fun year and I am so excited to have your child in my class!!!!
